Education Background


Hu Peisong, a famous rice breeding specialist, received his BSc degree (1986) in Agronomy from Zhejiang Agricultural University, China, his MSc degree (1991) in Crop Genetics and Breeding from Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), China and his PhD degree in Crop Genetics and Breeding (2002) from Nanjing Agricultural University, China.


Research Area


He is the Deputy Director General of CNRRI, Director of Rice Production Quality Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, Head of China-IRRI Joint Research Center on Rice Quality and Nutrition, the leader of Rice Quality Genetic Improvement Innovation Team of CNRRI. He has been working on rice quality genetics and breeding since 1991, focusing on the mapping and cloning of quantitative trait loci for rice quality traits, method of quality measurement and quality rice breeding. He has been awarded three national prizes for Technology Innovation, Scientific and Technological Progress and 9 Provincial/Ministerial Prizes for Science and Technology Progress. He has developed 22 inbred/ hybrid rice varieties (2 super inbred rice) and 2 patents authorized in China, and published 84 scientific papers.


He is the Editorial Board Member of Rice Science, Chinese Journal of Rice Science, China Rice, and the advisory member of International Hybrid Rice Research and Development Consortium. He has served as a Technical Co-operation Expert for the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations and International Atomic Energy Agency, conducting training and providing technical support for a number of projects in Asian countries.
