Education Background
Tong Hanhua, a senior rice breeding scientist, received his BSc (1995), MSc (2005) and PhD (2011) degrees in Plant Genetics and Breeding from Huazhong Agricultural University, China.
Research Area
He has been engaged in research of rice genetics and breeding since 1995 and awarded one Provincial First-class Prize and one Provincial Second-class Prize for Science and Technology Progress. He has developed 11 hybrid rice varieties, got 3 rice variety rights, and one patent authorized in China, and published more than 20 scientific papers in Molecular Breeding, Austrian Journal of Crop Science, Acta Genetica Sinica, Chinese Journal of Rice Science, and Molecular Plant Breeding. His major achievements include:
Utilization of elite germplasm resources of rice from Southeast Asia to breed new-type high-quality CMS lines;
Utilization of heterosis between indica and japonica rice and pyramid breeding through molecular marker-assisted selection;
Exploiting related makers and genes of rice important agronomic traits using genetic location and association analysis.
