CNRRI hosts International Workshop of Genetic Basis and Breeding Application on High-yield Superior Quality Rice
October 24th, 2016
To further promote domestic and international cooperation and exchange in rice science and technology, broaden the international vision of young researchers, enhance international cooperation and self technological innovation capability, International Workshop of Genetic Basis and Breeding Application on High-yield Superior Quality Rice was hosted by China National Rice Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CNRRI) on October 13-16, 2016 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Over 140 delegates including the known experts at home and abroad and researchers in rice genetics & breeding and functional genomics participated in this workshop.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. Shihua Cheng, Director General of CNRRI gave a warm welcome speech and introduced China's rice breeding and research progress and bottlenecks and Science and Technology Innovation Achievement of CNRRI. He wished the participants enjoy the academic exchanges and advance mutual cooperation through this workshop. He also expressed CNRRI welcome to strengthen cooperative research in rice with the other institutions in the world.
Twenty plenary speakers from International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Universities or research institution from Japan, the United States, Australia, Indonesia and China focused on the latest research progress in rice functional genomics and modern rice molecular design breeding especially linked to yield and quality. During this workshop, mutual preliminary collaboration plan between IRRI and CNRRI was discussed and identified for next 3-5 years.
This workshop was supported by two key international cooperation projects between IRRI and CNRRI as Diversity of global aromatic rice germplasm, domestication and application to rice breeding (Project No: 31110152) and Molecular breeding by gene design using a series of increasing yield genes of IPA1 and DEP1. (Project No. 3146113014) which were funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China
