The rice variety Shua-92 was evaluated for two years (2001 and 2002) in field condition to see the effect of Azolla pinnata and nitrogen fertilizer in enhancing the yield. Four treatments were tried. Fifteen tons/ha of Azolla plus half dose of nitrogen (60 kg/ha) in combination with 60 kg P2O5. It gave the highest grain yield, followed by full dose of nitrogen (120 kg/ha) and phosphorus (60 kg P2O5/ha). The treatment means in both the years, showed significant differences (P<0.01) in grain yield in all treatments. The experiment has provided an ample evidence that the cost of at least half of the recommended dose of nitrogenous fertilizer for the rice crop could be saved by adopting Azolla culture
