Education Background


Zhuang Jieyun, a rice geneticist, received his BSc degree in Botany (1984) from Xiamen University, China, his MPhil degree in Plant Breeding (1989) from the University of Cambridge, UK, and his PhD degree in Biophysics (2001) from Zhejiang University, China.


Research Area


He is the Executive Deputy Director of the Chinese National Center for Rice Improvement and the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Rice Biology in CNRRI. He has been working in rice breeding and genetics since 1984, focusing on the mapping and cloning of quantitative trait loci for agronomically-important traits and the marker-assisted rice breeding. He has been awarded one national second prize for Technology Innovation and nine provincial/ministerial prizes for Science and Technology Advancement. He has received two rice variety rights and eight patents authorized in China, and published 165 papers.


He is an associate editor of Crop Journal, Acta Agronomica Sinica, Rice Science, Chinese Journal of Rice Science, and Journal of Integrative Agriculture. He served as a Technical Co-operation Expert for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency, conducting training and providing technical support for a number of projects in Asian countries.
