Rice is the staple food of more than
half of the world's population. The production, processing and management
of paddy rice have provided the basic conditions for the living
of mankind. The production of rice has not only created employment
opportunities for one billion agricultural population in developing
nations, but has also contributed to the development of the splendid
culture associated with rice production. Hence, effective and productive
rice systems play an influential role in development of economy
and improvement of quality of life. In view of this, on 16 December,
2002, the UN General Assembly declared the year of 2004 the International
Year of Rice.
To further promote sustainable development of paddy rice as well
as to celebrate the International Year of Rice and World Food Day,
with approval and support by The Ministry of Agriculture of China
and The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China National
Rice Research Institute and Beijing Green Vision Ecosciences Inc.
( a member of CK Life Sciences Group ) will join hands to hold the
“International Conference on Sustainable Rice Production – Policy,
Technology and Extension” in Hangzhou, China, from 15-17 October,
2004.
With the theme “Green Rice Means Healthy Life (绿色稻米、健康生命)”, the
conference will gather government officials, experts, scholars and
technical promoters concerned to participate in discussions about
policies on sustainable rice production, techniques and promotional
matters, with an aim to promote sustainable production of rice.
We now invite submission of papers for the International Conference
on Sustainable Rice Production – Policy, Technology and Extension
(水稻可持续生产-政策、技术与推广国际会议).

CONTENT OF PAPERS
Authors are invited to submit papers on the various topics of the
three thematic areas:
1. POLICY – Problems and solutions to sustainable
rice production; policy formulation, implementation, analysis, evaluation
and recommendations to the related policies
2. TECHNOLOGY – Current practice, development and
application of environmental friendly technologies for sustainable
rice production
3. EXTENSION – Current practice and application,
promotional strategies and effective measures for sustainable rice
production
PROCEDURES OF PAPER SUBMISSION
· Authors of papers are required to complete the Registration
Form(Excel) and submit it (including title of papers) to the
Conference Organizing Committee on

· Papers and abstracts (approximately 300 words) should be submitted
to the Organizing Committee on or
before 15 August 2004
· Registration fee will be waived for selected authors of outstanding
papers on recommendation by the Academic Committee. Selected authors
will be notified before 15 September 2004
